Although it's a debatable stretch, I believe I just found out who the protagonist of Ace Combat 2 is.

Former Belkan Air Force pilot Axel Reichart. The evidence I found in-game:

MiG-31 "Schwan" Ace Axel Reichert Schwan 35 Male Belkan MiG-31 Foxhound 05 Shot Down (05/12/95) The Belkan Air Force 12th Air Division's top ace, he forged an impressive war record in conflicts throughout the world. He was given the nickname The Swan for having never taken a hit. After the war, he retired from service, and now works for a small nation as a mercenary suppressing any coup d'etat movements.

"Works for a small nation as a mercenary suppressing any coup d'etat movements": AC2's player character is a mercenary pilot  suppressing a major coup d'etat.

1. You're about 9 years late on this.

2. He could be, or maybe not. Actually it doesn't even matter because what would change if he was?

Your reasoning is basically a false syllogism. I shall bring up a nice quote from Rhinoceros:

"All cats are mortal. Socrates is mortal. So Socrates is a cat".

Nothing would change, Positron. I just thought I possibly found his identity. And what the hell makes you think that I'm 9 years late?

I understand you're new and can't know about everything that's been discussed here and in the AC community in general, but trust me, pretty much everything about these games has been found by now. And this kind of "this one ace is the player character from this other game" has been done to death and it's particularly pointless because most AC player characters have basically no defining characteristics in the first place, I'd say they're not even characters. You are the character, etc.
