The staff, and a goodly amount of people are getting fed up with the increased amount of meme spam being used on these forums.

We realize that Ace Combat is inherently a Japanese-based gaming title, but the game attracts a wide swath of players from a variety of backgrounds. The meme spam is not as funny as some of you think, and when we have to crawl, daily, through the same images....more or less used to make a spam post, the humor loses its edge.

From here on out, if you use meme images to pretty much increase your post count, we will have a little discussion.

We want discussion, not posting of images that some of you think is absolutely brilliantly funny. It's not. Trust me.

Is this a blanket ban on Memes? Or simply the overuse of them?

Any Particular threads being the primary culprit(s)? I mean I've seen them used, but the overusage you've been talking about I haven't really seen. Then again, they might just be in the parts of the site that i don't frequent.

says the guy with a meme avatar.

The usage is pretty widespread, across topics. We usually go in an delete them quickly though. Getting annoyed with it now, hence the rule change.

I guess I'm one of the culprits... I'll moderate myself from now on, if I need to post a meme I'll write something more interesting next to it.

The face palms are the big one I see, It's not so much when you see one, it's when someone posts a picture and the next five posts are variations of the same FRAKKING MEME.

What is a meme?

but seriously, how are we even suppose to tell the difference between some memes and others, their origin(Japan? I think America is the most likely culprit), and what is a meme and what isn't? The rules should be more along the lines of "you must actually say something(five word post rule)"

and what is a meme and what isn't?

If you don't know what is and what isn't you probably shouldn't be using them in the first place.

Not having a go at you in particular, just saying that misuse is how shit stops being funny very quickly.

Memes are little internet cultural phenomena that pop up. LOLCats, caption pictures in general, YTMND, RickRolling, Chuck Norris Facts, and certain ways of posting are all examples.
Specific ones we're discouraging here are posts consisting of nothing put a picture(with or without text) or gif. People use them to get out of actually having to formulate their thoughts into something coherent, relevant, and intelligible, and would rather instead post a picture of Tommy Lee Jones to say "Psh, you don't know what you're talking about."

Memes have their places, but no one comes to ACS to see pictures of Tommy Lee Jones, pictures of cats with big white text, or an animated gif of Hermione Granger.

true, but seeing that many smileys in a row isn't as annoying as seeing a long-ass picture we've all seen too many times before...

An egregious example:
http://acecombatskie...amas-signature/

Many of the posts go against this rule:

Keep posts informative / useful: Posting with the sole intent to increase your post count is a waste of everyone's time. Please do not do it.

Forums aren't designed like imageboards. It's nothing but a nuisance rather than funny.

^ewww...yeah, something like that that's just a variation of the facepalm joke is definitely annoying.

One question though, how are the rules with respect to Emphasized quote ladders? (See Here for an example i recently made: http://acecombatskie...081#entry692081 )

A joke was made, yes, but i also supplied information relevant to the topic. Stuff like this isn't going to far, right, since it actually contributes something?
