Interesting...

Ace Combat in the real world. Sounds good to me, but I wish they'd stop making iPhone and PSP crap and give us a full fledged console AC.

I'll get it seeing as I still have my PSP.

Hopefully they have different teams working on each thing or something. ACXi or whatever it's called seems to be nothing more than a cheap ACX port so I'm just hoping the majority of the team is actually working on AC7. ACZ, ACX and even AC6 to some extent were developed at roughly the same time, after all...

From IGN

More than 40 different aircraft types have been licensed for use in Joint Assault.

Jesus. IIRC, ACX has the most aircraft (40), but 8 were non-real.
With a bigger selection of real planes and, for the forst time, real locations, is ACES taking a turn to a more realistic gameplay, or just more real-world looking?

Jesus Christ, Namco. HAWX and Over G can get away with nonsensical real world settings because they have innovative gameplay to back it up. AC's just been the same old game over and over again since AC04, but the Strangereal setting's been its redeeming factor for me. You've created this awesome world since AC2 and just thrown it all aside. Thanks, Namco. </ace combat>

On the bright side, I can finally skip a crappy AC game without missing out on anything I'd need to know for SoU canon.

Welcome to Rondon.

I wont be surprised if the game is somewhat of a mix between real world and Strangereal.

I feel trolled with this announcement. Guess the waiting for the next AC game continues.

bringing fierce aerial battles to the skies of London, San Francisco, and Tokyo.

...wut.

If there's nothing new compared to ACX... which I honestly doubt, and slightly prettier graphics don't count... I'll be skipping it.

And what the flying f-104 is with all these IPS Driver Errors? :|

Pyramids?

This will be very interesting. First Xi and now Joint Assault.

EDIT: O LOL I just read the post on Kotaku...you gotta be shittin' me. I thought there'd be some AC country with Pyramids, but it will be real world? Oh c'mon....

Brace for interdimensional travel.

Oh God....if that happens....

Well, as I said before, Strangereal was kinda running out of countries to make wars in (South Yuktobania maybe, but it's small and IIRC the original Air Combat was in one of those).

So if the choice was between this and an AC3, they made the right choice. Strangereal wasn't what made AC. It helped, but it was always about the flying.

And what's the problem with them making another PSP game? Aren't we intitled to it?

They're far from running out of countries. There are even many wars mentioned in canon that we haven't yet seen in a game.

Mostly civil wars. Wouldn't be easy to plot a story for those. AC and AC2 had a similar theme (armed rebellion), but then again the story was ultra-light.

Have you ever seen a map of the AC world? There a lot of countries and such a lot of wars that haven't been shown yet.

And what exactly would make it difficult to come up with a half-decent plot for a civil war? Hell, they've already established skeleton plots for a couple in other games...
