ACS Relationship Advice Thread

Inspired by Neogaf's girl advice thread because there's nothing quite as fun as the blind leading the blind. I'll go first!

Yeah, so I have a pretty huge dick. Well, not really, my girlfriend is just 5'0" (It is pretty big, girthy, and fearsome, though, not gonna lie). But yeah, this girl is awesome and I'd like to remain in a (not-sexless) relationship with her. Without having to send her home limping. Wat do, ACS?

Ace Edge Sticks With Pc

Hello everyone i am new to the forums and i saw the topic about flight simulator x. for the longest time i have been trying to get my ace edge sticks from the xbox360 ace combat 6 budle to work for my PC in games like flight sim x and others. I have the Hori aceedge flight stick ex (black) and my dad has the white version. The sticks work like a regular usb controller, but the throttle stick does not actually control the throttle, the green button does. and there is no way to configure the sticks to work with the full sweeping motion of the throttle stick of the ace edge. Does anyone know how to make these sticks work on the PC exactly like they do in AC6? me and my father would greatly appreciate it!
thanks

Aviation historians and warbird enthusiasts are drooling at the discovery of at least 12 and maybe as many 20 perfectly preserved brand-new Spitfire Mark 14s buried in Myanmar, which was formerly Burma. Thanks to the tenacity (and apparently considerable diplomatic skills) of British farmer David Cundall, the lost squadron of pristine fighters was found where they were buried by U.S. troops in 1945 when it became clear they wouldn't be needed in the final days of the Second World War.

Carbine over Rifle

( first off let me put this out, I do not want this to be a pissing contest between AK and M16/M4 fan boys. I would like to hear your opinions and ideas and I would like everyone to respect the opinions and ideas of others. A sense of humor is always welcome )

Currently the US Army has ( what it seems ) dragged their feet upon the whole issue or statement about finding a replacement to its M4. Currently the US Army is in its second phase in its selection and replacement program.

http://www.military.com/news/article/army-launches-second-phase-in-carbine-selection-effort.html

Though Improved M4s are already in service with a new type of round comming out of it, I ask you fellow Ace Combat Skies people a very important question that I feel the US Army should take a look at. Is it better to have a carbine or a rifle? This is actually if you think about it a multi-layered question and issue. It would seem that military doctrine in modern combat cannot decide what is better? Though in the end bueracracy and cost effectiveness will ultimately be the true deciding factor. Not input and experiences from the end users; soldiers, marines, and operators.

I am no expert in ballistics or in fire arms. Though in my opinion looking at it the US Military has been recently going down a path that doesn't know which way its going. Originally the US Army had two potential replacements for the M16 / M4 family of weapons. First there was the super high tech and expensive XM29 OICW

The program was later cancelled due to its complexity, cost, and weight placed upon the individual soldier. Though the program was scrapped the 25mm system eventually grew into the XM25 CDTE. Issued in extremely limited quantity in Afghanistan to the 101st Airborne Division. Troops later nicknamed the XM25 ,"The Punisher".

Also grown from the cancelled XM29 was the cancelled modular weapon system the XM8

The XM8 was essentially a G36. The XM8 participated in the USSOCOM's SCAR program but was beaten out by FNH.

The US Military is going down two paths using up lots of money on improvement efforts for the M4 and another path of finding a possible replacement.
On the other side of the world the Russian military had a new weapon that was supposed to replace their AK series rifles but due to its cost and complexity is soley issued to special units in small numbers, the AN94

Because of the issues with the AN94 the Russian military has decided to update and modernize their AK series rifles creating the AK-12

Unfortunately the US military is waiting for the next big break in fire arms technology. Though lets face it, that wont happen anytime soon. All modern fire arms basically work on the same principle. Though the technology and materials may change the basics are still the same. What the US military needs to do is to look more in depth on what is needed, what will be needed, and most importantly what is the most combat effective. The only time the US military has put that much effort into creating something new ( that I can think of ) is in the M1 Abrams tank, and the F- "teen" series fighter aircraft and the A-10. They were everything their predecessors weren't and everything that is appropriate for the tasks they were designed to fullfill. In my opinion the last great fire arm for the US military came in the form of the M1 Garand.

I think the critical areas in which they should look at is, design, handling, materials, and caliber.

Has to be something good, right?

Some sort of cure-all tonic?

Some sort of intoxicating drug?

Some sort of horrible, deep, dark secret of a guilty pleasure (I know you're listening to aqua right now. Don't even try to deny)?

Well, I don't give a damn. Post about it anyway, whatever it is you're listening to right now.

Who knows, maybe you'll get someone hooked on something they never heard before.

Right now, I, myself, am getting healed right now by a damn good Stereophonics track off of Just Enough Education to Perform: "Lying in the Sun"

In case none of that rings a bell, well, take a listen to this then.

Quote

Wish I could lie in the sun
Wish I could fly like everyone

But you burn me up you paint my skin
In bad designs that ain't even in

My skin's crawling up the wall
Into the ocean I'd love to fall
I hear the sounds but they ain't the same
As feeling them with you two feet away

There's always more worse off than me
Suppose I'm lucky I can even see
All the people that I'd like to be
Passing me by everyday in the street
Same things as anyone
Same things as anyone

But you burn me up you paint my skin
In bad designs that ain't even in
I got good lungs, got a good heart
My mind is fit, and my feet can walk

And here I am in the shade on the street
Asking people for money to eat
What did I ever do to deserve this?
Did I kill a child or something worse?

Same things as anyone

What's the reason maybe make you feel
How much more fortunate you are than me

So yeah, pretty simple idea. Just post what you're listening to. No need to go into all the detail I just did. whoever - "whatever" more than suffices.

I just happened to run across a Guinness Record attempt at the longest 'stick bomb'.

Apparently, there's a way of weaving popsicle sticks to store potential energy and to release that at will. Long strings of this apparatus are called 'cobra sticks' or 'cobra bombs', from the absolutely killer way that this chain reaction seems to have a life of it's own.

What pisses you off?

Back when I was five, I had a brain tumor. Benign pilocytic astrocytoma. Now that screwed me over.

Last year, I read some articles on guys who had brain tumors, and played full contact sports like lacrosse, hockey, and football. I got cleared to play by the physician, and I made JV after trying lacrosse for the first time this year. But, because I had a tumor, I had to get cleared by a neurologist.

Now, the neurologist who did the first surgery when I was five moved to West Virginia. But the oncologists I go to said I was "cleared to resume all normal activities". So I expected to get cleared pretty easily by the outpatient center. She didn't. She said there was too much risk of me getting a concussion.

FUCK. THAT. I've been hit pretty damn hard over my life. My dad spear-tackled me into some drywall in an argument, I got taken down while doing wrestling after a preseason practice. I got run over by some dumbass when I was playing catcher in a youth baseball league. If I had a concussion as easily as she said, I would be brain dead.

Okay, rant over.

The Things We Live For

Chapter 1: Everyday Normal Guys
The setting was a poorly lit office in the back of the main lobby of a November City casino. Two men sat across from one another. Both wore heavy frowns and casual clothes. The cold air of the room created a tension thicker than the armor of tank. A large bag rested behind the man at the helm of the desk. The thought of what was in the bag was agonizing for all in attendance.

Samuel Westbrook, calmly sitting behind the desk, was a man of business. Moreover, he was a Northpointer trying to make a quick buck. What was he doing in a business where people killed for a living, he wondered. Ironically, that sort of business was his forte. He had called a meeting with an Osean by the name of Jacoby Logan. There was a job to be done and the “young chap” sitting across from him was a godsend. He had two teams that could be deployed anywhere around the world within an hour.

Westbrook was a coy man. He only spoke his mind when needed. He was a slightly overweight, middle-aged fellow with a knack for firearms. He had grown up in the North Point countryside, often dreaming of becoming a serviceman. He achieved that goal, only for it to be taken away courtesy of a discharge. He saw in Logan what he once was; a dog of war without the slightest regard for the sanctity of human life.

He rubbed his beard, staring into the wall at the other end of the room.

“So, how’s the wife and kids, Sam?” Jacoby asked.

“Oh, the wife’s dead and the kids are in the SAS.” Sam replied.

“You must be proud,” Jacoby said.

“Not much I can be proud of,” Sam said, almost bitterly disappointed with himself.

“Well Mr. Logan,” he started, “your organization’s credentials are impeccable. Your battle record is clean. My, my, 25 missions in only 18 months? You must be quite the busy fellow, Mr. Logan.”

Jacoby tapped his thigh to the beat of a march. He thought about what he was going to say, but decided to go with the unintelligent rant.

“Sam, hop off. Here’s the deal: You want me to go to Nemey? You want me to travel to some shithole country out in the middle of nowhere? Where is it again, northwest of Yuktobania? And then you want my other team strolling around in the slums of Gran Rugido? I’d toke with you, but then I’d kill you!” He smashed his fist into the desk, demonstrating his incredibly short temper.

Jacoby was an impatient man. His Delta Force training and numerous fights in the Circum-Pacific War were traumatizing to most men. He only left the conflict with a myriad of nightmares, the lucky fellow.

“Son,” Westbrook started, slightly irritated, “don’t ask for a job and then whine about it. You’re a wealthy man living off of blood money from scourging Nordennavic islands. Do you honestly think I’m going to take you seriously when you complain about a job? A job that is, in your case, menial at best?” Westbrook paused for a minute, attempting to conjure up more words for his melodramatic monologue. “I didn’t call you to meet in November City because I enjoy the casinos. Nay, I called you up because your team does the task with a majestic flare that only few can truly appreciate. The Osean saying, ‘you walk around like your shit doesn’t stink,’ is perfect for you, Mr. Logan.”

Jacoby’s grasp of North Point colloquialism wasn’t the best. He understood that Westbrook had just attacked his character with heavy vigor, but the true extent of the insults was out of his grasp.

“Jacoby,” Sam started, “Nemey is a volatile country. The people running it are only half-aware that they are actually running it.”

“So, it’s a typical haji country? Broken, religious, and rich because of oil reserves?” Jacoby said, almost pitying the country.

Sam nodded and continued, “The man we’re asking you to kill is a man by the name of Hafeez Amin Mohammed.”

Isn’t he a drug dealer? Jacoby thought.

“He’s a cold man. Runs the country behind Prime Minister Hakim’s back. He needs to be killed and killed sooner rather than later. Funny enough, international law prohibits any nation from touching him. That’s where your team comes in.”

Jacoby raised an eyebrow. The idea of killing for the sake of free will appealed to him.

Sam continued, “The man’s a bloody lunatic. The bloke kills people even at the slightest hint of dissent. It could be your means of distraction when planning, but for the sake of publicity that course of action is inadvisable.”

Jacoby digged mass killing in a creepy sort of way. Whatever served him best was probably the easiest means of getting the task done. He liked easy, but for some odd and peculiar reason "easy" didn’t seem to have the same appeal it used to. Every plan he could possibly conjure up in that brain of his had the same outcome: Death. He leaned forward, letting out a heavy sigh, as if he knew this mission could quite possibly be his last.

“I’ll take the Nemey job,” he said with resignation, “but not the Gran Rugido offer. I’ve had enough adventures in Sapin for more than one lifetime. Oh, and what of the money, Sam?”

“In due time, Mr. Logan. Let’s hope your upbringing in this lackluster city didn’t mess with your perception of thought,” Westbrook remarked.

The two men stood up from their chairs and walked out of the office. They parted ways, but Jacoby knew it wasn’t the last time he would have to partake in palaver with the Northpointer.

He ventured throughout the casino, avoiding the allure of the poker tables and slot machines. The building was filled to the brim with light. The fluorescent colors and jovial people drove Jacoby mad. How could they possibly be happy in such a complex and unforgiving world, he thought.

Jacoby was an older fellow. 40 years of age, a scar running down his left arm, from bicep to wrist, and even a slight limp in his left leg. He didn’t have a name for his wounds like most veterans would. Referring to permanent mutilations of his body as “war wounds” annoyed him. The amputees he’s talked to would not be so happy with such woody banter.

Jacoby continued to walk to the door, often taking short breaks to acknowledge some petty situation. Oftentimes, the poor, old man forgot what he was doing. He was never good with words. He was never good with people. He was never good with politics. The man hated conservatives as much as he hated liberals. He no time for the drawn-out discussions over the same issues every day.

After the continuous pitter-patter of thought rang through his head, he finally reached the exit of the casino. Waiting for him outside was a man of equal age and stature.

“How’d it go?” The man asked.

“Jonesy would get a kick out of Sam,” Jacoby replied.

“Orale,” the man said with obvious annoyance.

“Julio,” Jacoby started, “why is it that we fight?”

Julio was puzzled by the question. He knew Jacoby for most of his life and he would never have thought of him as the person to ask such an uncharacteristically intelligent question.

“You know this shit, right? You’ve read shit like that book by that Yuke prick. Dostoyevsky, what is it? Or even,” Jacoby paused, as if not knowing how to pronounce the title, “El Prenc-e-pay… by that dude from Fato, right? Why do we fight knowing damn well we could die?”

Julio paused for a moment, as if he were about to strike Logan.

“Well sir,” Julio started, “I couldn’t tell you really. Those two books are only somewhat relevant to the topic at hand.”

“Oh.” Jacoby said. He frowned harshly. He was never good with comprehension.

Julio was a man of higher intelligence. He graduated from a prestigious university in Osea, but from which one he has never specified. Despite
having been known by all his friends for a number of years, little was actually known about him. He never even talked about his birthplace.

He was a quiet man, usually entranced in the latest news or a book. “Booklearnin’,” Logan would call it. The boy was a competent fighter, however. He has two black belts. Or was it three? No one knows for sure.

“Anyways,” Julio began, “what did Sam offer us anyways?”

“Oh,” Jacoby started, “two jobs. One in Nemey and one in Sapin.”

“And you took which one?” Julio inquired, coming off as impatient.

“Nemey, I’ll explain it more once we get back to the shop.” Jacoby insisted.

The two men began walking to a black SUV. They couldn’t have been no further than 10 yards when the SUV spontaneously combusted and engulfed the adjacent cars. The two men were knocked down on their backs. The ringing in their ears was unbearable, the pain in their backs maddening.
The explosion was cataclysmic. The building the car was next to had a spectacularly large hole in the wall. Gasoline dispersed in the explosion ignited and illuminated the entire parking lot.

Screaming and shouting gave in to chaos and disorder. The public hadn’t a clue of what was going on. People were trampled, pummeled, and in one poor fool’s case, crushed by a conveniently placed billboard.

Julio and Jacoby only began to regain their composure after the chaos rooted itself into the streets.
Were they wanted men, Julio thought. The notion that someone wanted them dead appalled him. Furthermore, doing such a thing in such an extravagant matter led him to believe the deed was done by professionals.

His train of thought was derailed by Jacoby’s incessant shouting.

“Julio, we need to go! Someone wants us dead and if we don’t move we will be dead!”

The urgency in his voice alarmed Julio. He had never seen Jacoby in such an erratic state. The entire situation was frightening to both of them. The disarray that enveloped November City would only serve as the catalyst for the forthcoming events, as everyone would learn soon enough.

F-22 Raptors deployed near Iran

http://news.yahoo.co...topstories.html

Quote

America's most sophisticated stealth jet fighters have been quietly deployed to an allied base less than 200 miles from Iran's mainland, according to an industry report, but the Air Force adamantly denied the jets' presence is a threat to the Middle East nation.

Multiple stealth F-22 Raptors, which have never been combat-tested, are in hangars at the United Arab Emirates' Al Dafra Air Base, just a short hop over the Persian Gulf from Iran's southern border, the trade publication Aviation Week reported.

Air Force spokesperson Lt. Col. John Dorrian would not confirm the exact location of the F-22s, but told ABC News they had been deployed to a base in Southwest Asia -- a region that includes the UAE. Dorrian also stressed that the F-22s were simply taking part in a scheduled deployment and are "not a threat to Iran."

"This is a very normal deployment to strengthen military relationships, promote sovereign and regional security, improve combined tactical air operations and enhance interoperability of forces," Dorrian said.

The F-22 has only been in the UAE once before for training missions in 2009 with "coalition partners."

Dorrian declined to say what the Raptors' mission was in the region this time around or how many planes had been deployed, citing operational security. However, Dorrian said that because of the F-22's next-generation capabilities, any number of planes deployed to the region is "significant."

Though the F-22 has been officially combat operational since December 2005, no planes from the Air Force fleet -- which are made by defense contracting giant Lockheed Martin and cost an estimated $79 billion -- have seen combat. The plane was not used in Iraq, Afghanistan or in the U.S.-led no-fly mission over Libya. The Air Force has said the sophisticated jets simply haven't been needed yet.

But Jeff Babione, Lockheed Martin's vice president for the F-22 program, told ABC News last year that the plane was "absolutely" suited for taking on more sophisticated adversaries and could be used in deep penetration strike missions in well-defended combat zones inside places like North Korea or Iran.

Air Force: F-22s Ready for War, Despite Mystery Problem
The new deployment comes in the midst of the Air Forces' continuing battle with a rare but sustained oxygen problem plaguing the F-22. Since 2008, nearly two dozen pilots have reported experiencing "hypoxia-like symptoms" in mid-air. The problem got so bad that the Air Force grounded the planes for nearly five months last year in hopes of fixing the problem but never could.

The service also does not know what caused the malfunction that cut off F-22 pilot Capt. Jeff Haney's oxygen shortly before he fatally crashed during a training mission in Alaska in 2010.

But despite the ongoing issues, the Air Force says the F-22 is ready for war, should it be called.

"If our nation needs a capability to enter contested air space, to deal with air forces that are trying to deny our forces the ability to maneuver without prejudice on the ground, it will be the F-22 that takes on that mission," Air Force Maj. Gen. Noel Jones, Director of Operational Capability Requirements, said at a special briefing at the Pentagon in March. "It can do that right now and is able to do that without hesitation."

The Al Dafra base is approximately 800 miles from the Iranian capital of Tehran, well within the range of the F-22, which can "supercruise" at one and a half times the speed of sound.

There are still issues with it but the Air Force is forcing a gambit with the oxygen issues still not resolved.

Battlefield 3

http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefiel...king-ahead.aspx

Quote

There comes a time when we as a studio have to choose where to best put our efforts. At DICE we’re dedicated to taking care of our products after launch, and also hell bent on building new, innovative and high quality games.

In my day to day work, I look at our release schedule and the studio’s capacity, weighing them against our wild ambitions to create awesomeness. I often need to make hard calls regarding where we put the studio’s focus. Part of the challenge is to balance work on the new against the already shipped, prioritizing the amount of energy spent on the known franchises and the time spent on developing something entirely new.

This is one of those cross roads where I need to make a hard decision. While we’ll continue supporting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and previous games, it’s time to look ahead to the next giant leap for DICE – the release of Battlefield 3, powered by the mighty Frostbite 2 engine. Our goal is crystal clear: we’re going to build the best Battlefield game ever, and we’ll do whatever it takes to make this the biggest launch in DICE’s history.

We know some of you eagerly have been awaiting Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught on PC. I’m sad to say that these two titles are now officially cancelled. Instead, our talented teams will focus on delivering the greatest possible gaming experience in our next behemoth release. We’re confident this will lead to an even better experience in Battlefield 3, not only on PC, but on all platforms.

For an idea of what that means, watch this space for some exciting news I think you’ll like.
Also dice said the game will be prioritized on PC more then consoles.
