Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.
'nuff said. Blitzkreig 2 is good too, except you can't be Great Britain. -------------------- ![]() At the time of Pearl Harbor, the top US Navy command was called CINCUS (pronounced “sink us”), the shoulder patch of the US Army’s 45th Infantry division was the swastika, and Hitler’s private train was named “Amerika”. |

I just found Starcraft today again
Althought it's an old game, I love it. Warcraft is the same as Starcraft, only that Warcraft is more medieval stuff and Starcraft is more "advanced" technology. -------------------- ![]() ^^ Oldskool sig, but I'm ****ing proud of it Top Gun in the Air/ Elite Ace of Aquila |

Upcoming 'Company of Heroes' by Relic (Homeworld, Dawn of War) will be awesome, at least I'm pretty sure it will.
It's a WW2 RTS with many parts that resemble Dawn of War, which is good, as DoW is one of the best RTSs around. -------------------- "While obscene heretics' hearts still beat, there can be no respite."

Medieval: Total War. Although debate rages as to whether this is RTS or TBS. Either mode is fantastic.

This is a very old game that I had on my 386DX computer system but it was an awesome strategy game; CommandHQ made by Microprose.
In the game you could play World War I, World War II, World War III (NATO vs Warsaw Pact) or World War IV which randomly picked a city as your capitol and and city as your enemies capitol. It wasn't much into visual graphics and hack and slash but it was just buying infantry units, tank units, various naval vessels (mostly submarines), aircraft and such and conquering and holding vital areas of the world map. The battles for the Mid-East oil fields and the Panama Canal Zone were blood baths. It was considered turn-based but I didn't see that. I was constantly reorganizing my battle lines, withdrawing depeted and battle weary units, and occassionally working diplomacy to draw the nuetral to my side. I wish there a real updated strategy game like it. Panzer General and Allied General were close but the learning curve was a little too steep and they didn't cover the world in scope. |

Try all the CnC games, plus Starcraft, Warcraft 3, and Age of Mythology games.
I like Turn-Based games more though... -------------------- ![]() |

I enjoy Rise of Nations, myself(though I more or less hate the 'paper tiger' naval combat).

Yeah, rise of nation's naval combat more or less amounts to flooding the seas with combinations of warships and hoping to God that your amphibious transports break through.

If you're talking tactical-level games, where you do all your unit building/buying between missions and just focus on combat during missions, a few titles come to mind. All of these feature fully customizable units, and the MechCommander games even have a system for calling in support units from off-map during missions, and for salvaging disabled enemy 'Mechs.
MechCommander MechCommander 2 Both are set in the Battletech universe, as the titles might suggest. If you're a fan of Battletech or MechWarrior, these are for you. Nexus: The Jupiter Incident Fleets of spaceships going at it. The learning curve is a bit steep, but well worth the time and money. Fully three-dimensional environments; it takes a while to get used to navigation as none of the maps have a set "up" or "down" and ships do not auto-level themselves when they get disoriented. Captures the "we're in space!" feeling better than most other games out there. All the visuals are simply gorgeous. Missionforce: Cyberstorm Cyberstorm 2 These are both rather old titles, set in the same universe as Earthsiege, Starsiege, and Tribes. Don't bother unless you don't mind doing a bit of fiddling and re-adjusting, as neither game likes XP all that much. If you have an older computer, use it. |

re: cyberstorm not liking xp that much: dang. i was hoping to find a copy somewhere and play it on xp. it won't work even with that entire "compatibility run settings" on xp (such as play with compatibility settings for Win95, etc.)? tried looking around for stuff on this but so far couldn't find any.

First off I like the quote Bluestreak.
Starcraft (SC) owns so hard. I played it for years and I had a record of like 89-33 I think. And no7v1 compstomps either, those are stupid. In fact me and a few friends fought AGAINST out allies in one of those and WON! Man...nothing like owning a bunch of cheaters. I haven't played it in a while, but I remember Command and Conquer being good. I remember touching Generals for a bit, but only for a day or so... If you have a GBA or DS I (along with almost all reviews) recommend Advance Wars and Advance Wars:Dual Strike. AoE of course owns, I have AoE3 for my brother's PC. I like it alot, and it really is beautiful. Starcraft is easily the best RTS I have played for it's time, but then again, now it is dying out some. The only reason I stayed on so long (almost 4 years) was because of my sworn sister, the great Ethereal Angel Kitsurubami (or Kitty as I was allowed to call her...but only me! But yeah...Civilization is a great turn-based strat too, which focuses more on your entire civilization, not just tactics and strategy in battle. Of course, Science, Culture, Military, and diplomatic might are all important. You can decide to focus on any one of these, and you can pick your own form of government. In 4, you can even choose your own Economy and state religion, if any. I love strat, so I've played alot of strat games, and it's easily my favorite genre, even before Ace Combat. -------------------- "May the victor be Justice." -Gault 1

QUOTE(Eagle 1 @ Sep 14 2006, 01:22 PM) Army Men: Real Time Strategy I liked that game, it was the only RTS i ever played for PS2. There were some things I liked, but there were several down falls that I just couldn't ignore. 3 and a half stars for me. I'll sum it up in this quote: "Not as bad as it could've been, but not as good as it should've been." -------------------- ![]() ![]() --"I was just a child when the stars fell from the skies...but I remember how the built a cannon to destroy them." www.fighter-pilot.org/forum |
