I've seen the series, it was OK. It apparently differs from the manga about half way though.

i'm currently watching it. not bad, but Area 88 still PWNs it.(honestly, A88 is the best anime of that kind, IMO)

God did it frustrate me. The last episode just kinda stops... well, stops isn't the right word, it certainly keeps going, literally the last two minutes start a brand new storyline, but it feels like there should be at least another disc... and yet... there isn't. It's worth a rent just for the animated hardware alone, and the series does manage to keep from being too anti-anyone although I did feel there were a bit too many moments the IJN and the SNLF got a bit to... glorified? I dunno if that's the word for it, but it's the closest I can come up with. That and the dub is horrible, every American has a southern accent, naval ranks for both sides are consistently wrong, and it may just be my memory (I watched it about 4 months ago) but I'm pretty sure some of the technical data was flat out wrong too. Certainly worth a rent, but I wouldn't buy it without a season two.

They probably intended on a second season. In the manga, the main guy (I can't remember his name) goes to Manchuria to stop that IJN officer he saved (can't remember his name either) from making a nuke.

Really, there's no spoiler, the simple fact is there is no ending to the series in its current state, thus, no end to spoil. I'm really not kidding. The last episode ends like every other one, I went back like four times looking for the next episode preview. I mean, really, there has to be a season two, even though I've seen nothing about one. It's not that it's a bad story, and you'll enjoy it, but really it does just stop, don't waste the $140 it'll take to get all 7 discs just to be disappointed, that's all I'm saying, rent it.

No Valkyrie is right, the series just stops. The series begins deviating from the manga about halfway though, in the series they never really say why that guy went to Manchuria. There's nothing much to spoil since there really isn't an ending. Seriously, it's as if George Lucas just stopped at The Empire Strikes Back and didn't make Return of the Jedi. If you want to continue the story, you'll have to find translated scans of the manga. I don't know how well it did in Japan so I don't know if a second season will get animated.
