Five years later, it's still known as 'Mother of all bombs'
3/13/2008 by Staff Sgt. Stacia Zachary 96th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE. Fla. (AFPN) -- What's worse than unleashing on society the wrath of the largest non-nuclear bomb yet to be made? Letting the world know it's out there and ready to be used at any moment. The guided bomb unit-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb is a 21,600 pound, Global Positioning System-guided munition with precision guidance and architecture to be delivered accurately to enemy forces with the main intention of permanently disabling them. The goal was to put pressure on then-Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to cease and desist United Nations violations. At least the MOAB is GPS guided and is actually in service and not a prototype
And I demand the MOAB be modified so that a B-52 can carry it... or maybe 3... I am sure you could get one inside, along with one on each external pylon... -------------------- |

We're not in the cold war anymore; we've got better things to do. I think we should worry about any one who has a bomb that powerful, isn't that why we went to Iraq?...wmd's? If this really is 4 times more powerful than an a-bomb then it is a wmd and by the policy our current admnistration has in place concerning wmd's, we should be gearing up for another fight. Do i personally think the policy is right? No. But if we will invade a country once over wmd's ( well supposed wmd's) we should at least be consistant. -------------------- Jagdbombergeschwader 31 "Boelcke"

If this really is 4 times more powerful than an a-bomb then it is a wmd It's not four times as powerful as an A-bomb. It's four times as powerful as our MOAB, which is our most powerful non-nuclear ordnance. This post has been edited by Seraph 5: Mar 27 2008, 01:45 PM -------------------- ![]() HEY PEOPLE! Time travelling is very fun, unless the time machine screws up and you're stuck in Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945 at 8:14 AM.

QUOTE I think we should worry about any one who has a bomb that powerful, isn't that why we went to Iraq?...wmd's? Considering the fact that the old Soviet regime is gone and is no longer ruled by a non-democratic dictator, I'd trust them with WMD's more as opposed to a psycho like Hussein. Plus, their military is in shambles compared to what they used to have. This post has been edited by grgspunk: Mar 29 2008, 07:59 AM |

Nope, it was an air blast weapon that creates a very devastating pressure wave that destroys only above ground targets. It's the same type of weapon as the daisy cutter. It hardly even leaves a crater.
