B-1B achieves first supersonic flight using synthetic fuel
3/20/2008 Staff Sgt. Matthew Bates Air Force News Agency DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFPN) -- A B-1B Lancer from the 9th Bomb Squadron here became the first Air Force aircraft to fly at supersonic speed using an alternate fuel March 19 in a flight over Texas and New Mexico. The fuel, a 50/50 blend of synthetic and petroleum gases, is being tested as part of an ongoing Air Force program to help the environment and to use a fuel produced domestically. Air Force officials are in the process of evaluating and certifying this alternative fuel, which is derived from natural gas using the Fischer-Tropsch process, for use in all Air Force aircraft. Does this fuel have a detrimental effect to aircraft performance?
-------------------- ![]() ![]() I heard a thing once, can't remember where, that, in general, the better a plane looks, the better it performs, agility-wise. Which means that the Falken can't fly for sh*t It is never a good idea to have "Highway to the Danger Zone" playing. Not even in a Tomcat. You are not Maverick. You are not Iceman. It is not Top Gun. It is Ace Combat. Once A HellCat, Always A HellCat http://www.360voice.com/tag/Quinntan |

Does this fuel have a detrimental effect to aircraft performance? There haven't been any negative effects as of yet. I do know it reduces smoke though... -------------------- |

If the military could end dependence on foreign fossil fuels, it will provide them with a major strategic and economic advantage. We wont have to be fighting wars in the mid east while depending on oil from the same region. Plus it has a lot of environmental benefits.
